Mindy Gledhill Christmas Concert

My husband took me to see Mindy Gledhill's christmas concert last night and it was AMAZING.  Her music was so beautiful I didn't want the concert to end.

Grandpa Claus

My Dad was Santa at his ward Christmas party.   I kind of had a feeling that my three year old wouldn't be really excited about seeing Santa.  He is pretty cautious and we don't really do the whole Santa thing too much.  I figured my one year old wouldn't care too much either way, he's pretty easy going and I was right, he kind of went with the flow.

The three year old on the other hand, was upset even at the mention of going to see Santa.  So I whispered into his ear "Let me tell you a secret, It's just Grandpa and he is dressed up like Santa Clause, but don't tell your friends"  Maybe I'm a spoil sport, but I'm not going to lie to my kids, especially about something that is apparently terrifying to them.  Sure enough he was still a little nervouse but, as you can see he went in.

A couple days later he went with the babysitters to a different Christmas party with Santa and he was a little too scared to see that Santa.  He told them matter of factly that "he had already seen Santa Clause and that it was his Grandpa and he didn't tell his friends (or his dad)".

Maverik Open House

Thursday night the new Maverik in West Richland had an open house.  We missed the one in Pasco, so we checked out this one.  It was better than I had expected.
They gave us these little boat tray things and just kept filling them with samples of stuff.  And I'm not a huge fan of gas station food, but it was actually really good!  I mostly love the frozen yogurt!
And here he is with his loot.

At the Park

Thursday we all decided to go out on an adventure.  We all bundled up really well and met Dad at the park by his work during his lunch break.   The sun was out, but it was still pretty cold.  We all had lots of fun!

Gingerbread Men

My little guy was SO excited to make gingerbread men.  He really wanted to make some, so I picked up some stuff and we made them after Thanksgiving dinner.  I think everyone had fun baking and decorating.  Usually my family makes a gingerbread house at christmas time, but we decided to switch it up this year and do people instead.

Farnsworth TV & Pioneer Museum in Rigby

We took a nice little vacation a few weeks ago and one of our stops was at the Farnsworth TV museum.  I used to live near there, but I had never visited it before.  I first learned about Philo T. Farnsworth when I went to school over there.  I was studying broadcasting and since then I have been fascinated with his story.

It was right there in Rigby, Idaho that he thought up the idea for electronic television.  He was only 14 and plowing a potato field when he decided that the same pattern of horozontal lines was what he could base his design on.

He went through a very rough time battling RCA for pattent rights after they claimed to have had the idea first.  Even though he eventually won, it wasn't a very glamorous victory.  No one really knew who he even was.  He had a lot of problems following the whole ordeal.

I think the most intriguing part was that after it all he didn't even let his own kids watch TV.   Saying, "There's nothing on it worthwhile, and we're not going to watch it in this household, and I don't want it in your intellectual diet." I actually have a very similar view.  I mean we watch some TV, but in moderation. There is a lot of time that can be wasted in front of the television.

You can read more about him this article: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,990620,00.html#ixzz1YRdjTRrM

Wayne Quinton, the inventor of the treadmill and a shunt for kidney dialysis was also from there

I thought this was kind of a funny TV to be used in a television museum :)
